Business Central Provenance

The background of the solution stretches back to the first Windows version of NAV in the mid-1990s. It benefits from a large customer and partner community, providing extensions, support and user groups

NAV’s 31 years of heritage, 198 countries and 2.7 million users are testament to its success and it continues to grow. Alongside the NAV growth and popularity, Microsoft wanted to respond to growing customer demand for cloud solutions. Business Central is more than NAV: 100+ improvements, particularly around cloud expectations for wizards etc and also functionality, were part of the “regeneration” of NAV to Business Central.

A member of the Dynamics 365 family and part of the evolution to common data service, Business Central integrates with other Dynamics solutions such as Dynamics 365 Sales, Customer Service and Field Service Management. It also works seamlessly with Microsoft solutions such as Office 365, Power BI and MS Flow. It leverages the intelligent edge and PowerBI to provide business insights from the moment you open the home page.

Business Central is an application and a platform

Business Central meets your day-to-day operational and finance needs and provides a platform to support your organic and strategic growth plans.

Business Management Application: full finance and operation functionality you would expect from an ERP

Business Application Platform: opportunity for customers to extend through the pre-built / off the shelf solutions and to develop the solution to meet own requirements

Business Central 3 Ways!

  1. Software as a Service: fully cloud hosted solution; “evergreen” so updates are managed by Microsoft.
  2. Perpetual / “on premises”: traditional licensing of one-off cost with annual maintenance fees. Customers have complete control over where the solution is hosted and when it is upgraded.
  3. Subscription / “on premises”: as above with the advantage of monthly billing; perfect to spread cost and for organisations with fluctuating user numbers.

Dynamics 365 Business Central puts flexibility at the core of your business, enabling you to start quickly, grow at your own pace and adapt in real time. Easily tailor and extend the application to meet your unique business or industry-specific needs. Combine your multiple disconnected systems into one. Boost efficiency with automated tasks and workflows—all from within familiar Office tools like Outlook, Word, and Excel. Get an end-to-end view of your business, with built-in intelligence when and where you need it.
